Rolta signs MOU with Department of Science & Technology to promote and create awareness about the benefits of Geospatial Technology
Mumbai, June 30, 2003: In a major initiative to promote and create awareness about the benefits of Geospatial Technology, Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, and Rolta have joined hands and recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
The MOU was initialed by officials from the two sides, in the presence of the Minister of State for Science & Technology, Shri Bachi Singh Rawat.
The Department of Science and Technology is the nodal agency for organising, coordinating and promoting scientific endeavours in terms of surveying and providing maps for a number of organisations including Defence and external affairs and developmental agencies. Rolta is recognized as the leader in this field and has been serving the needs of leading Indian organisations, in partnership with Intergraph, for over 15 years.
Under the terms of this MoU:
- DST and Rolta will jointly showcase the contribution made by the Indian Mapping community through the Festival of The Great Arc to be held in UK and other parts of the world.
- As DST's primary technology consulting partner, Rolta will provide consulting advice, and recommendations on specifications, system methodology, processes, workflows etc.
- A Planetarium and Museum will be set up, by DST & Rolta, focused towards increasing the appreciation of Geospatial Technology, at New Delhi.
The Festival of The Great Arc commemorates 200 years of the commencement of surveys in a scientific manner in India. The British Council formally launched this Festival on June 18, 2003 at its High Commission in New Delhi. An exhibition designed on the Great Arc will showcase some of the major contributions of Indian surveyors in the field of surveying and mapping, as well as advances made by India in space exploration and science and technology.
The Festival will be launched in London, UK, on July 3, 2003 and will travel to Cambridge to coincide with the prestigious Cambridge Conference. This conference is a congregation of Heads of Surveying and Mapping organisations from different parts of the world. Later the exhibition will move to other cities in Britain before reaching London. It will also visit France, Spain and Holland before returning to India, by the time the Great Arc bicentenary year concludes.
